Purpose

The French national network (REMI) aims to monitor the microbiological quality of shellfish production areas based on the quantity of Escherichia coli bacteria in living shellfish, used by professionals and classification into 4 categories by the local department’s Prefect:

zone A : shellfish which can be harvested for direct human consumption;

zone B : shellfish which will be sold after purification or relaying;

zone C : shellfish sold after being relayed for a long period of time;

zone D : the shellfish cannot be sold.

363 sampling points ensuring the monitoring of 317 classified areas.

Analyses conducted in accordance with methods NF V 08-106 or ISO/ TS 16649-3 by accredited laboratories endorsed by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries for the detection and recording of E. coli in living shellfish.

Monitoring reports drawn up by IFREMER coastal laboratories or on the website dedicated to the coastal environment.
