Customary houses - Atauro Island - East Timor - Asia

The data come from a field trip conducted by Gabriel Facal in November-December 2019, as part of the project Politiques culturelles, patrimoines locaux et approches collaboratives dans l'Est insulindien-ANR-18-CE27-020 POPEI-COLL. Interviews were conducted with 32 members and heads of houses and clans, in Indonesian or through a Makili resident who translated from Hresuk (spoken in Makili by around 2,500 speakers) into Indonesian. The main interlocutors, José Lopes (Kau Sahe) and Patricio de Jesus Cabesas (Kurukose), as well as all the clan representatives, agreed to share their origin stories. Research permits and agreements with local populations have been put in place for this participatory project.
