Samples of rocks and sediments on the submerged flanks of oceanic islands and seamounts - WMS

These data correspond to samples of rock and sediment collected on the flanks of oceanic islands and seamounts within the project of extension of the continental shelf of Portugal. During the multidisciplinary oceanographic campaigns carried out by the Portuguese Task Group for the Extension of the Continental Shelf (EMEPC), samples of rock and sediment were collected using the dredge and corer, respectively, or by the ROV Luso that allows the collection of samples by the robotic arm, and sediment using the corer or the suction sampler. The study of these samples allowed the geological characterization of the seabed as required for the Portuguese proposal of extension of the continental shelf, in accordance with Article 76º of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
