anonymized observation data collected by semaphores Saint-Mathieu, La Chèvre and Toulinguet from 2011 to 2013
The present database contains observations for 3 semaphores placed on the Brittany coast (Saint-Mathieu, La Chèvre and Toulinguet) and for the years 2011 (Saint-Mathieu, La Chèvre et Toulinguet), 2012 (Saint-Mathieu) and 2013 (Saint-Mathieu). Raw data observations refer to
data recorded 24h/24 and 7d/7 from officers of the French Navy (Marine Nationale) by contacting via radio (where possible) the boat and asking about the route of the boat itself. Name, matricule, type of boat and usage are also recorded. Sometimes also time of return and azimuth/distance of the sighting are recorded.

Clean data refers to raw data where routes of the boats are extracted and homogeneized following a Python procedure whose the code is published here: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4420050 (createDicts.py and CleanDataByDicts.py files). These files carry information about reference month, date, name of the boat, matricule, usage, type of the boat and homogeneized routes. Clean files also feed a spatio-temporal geoprocessing algorithm written in Python and created for GRASS GIS 7 (t.vect.createRoutes.py) to simulate synthetic geographical routes from semanthic routes. These data are important because they are often the only way to track traffic due to small boats (whatever usage) often this kind of fluxes can represent also 50-60% of the total traffic amount.
Their importance is particularly high if the sea portion investigated is under regulation (presence of a Marine Protected Area) and all the impacts due to human activities (included traffic) must be accurately considered.
